TAP Maintenance and Engineering

TAP Maintenance & Engineering (TAP M&E) is the MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) organization of TAP Portugal, the Lisbon based operator, employing about 4000 persons adequately trained and qualified to provide maintenance and engineering services in aircraft, engines and components, with a quality that is internationally recognized, in a very demanding market where safety is the prime value. TAP M&E is duly certified by several aviation authorities amongst which the FAA and EASA.

Since the foundation of TAP, in 1945, TAP M&E has been responsible for the maintenance of its entire fleet, presently with more than 50 Airbus aircraft. In the 70s started providing services to third party Customers, a segment that quickly won a significant share in its activity that nowadays accounts for more than half the total revenue of this business unit.

The long-term involvement with a commercial operator, made TAP M&E aware of the importance of on time delivery of our products (aircraft, engines and components) and services for an efficient operation. That is why TAP M&E is committed to offer its Customers cost efficient maintenance with short turn-around times and high quality and reliability standards. As part of its mission, it is important to emphasize that the maintenance activity is carried out taking into consideration the high standards of safety inherent to the aeronautical industry, the protection of the environment and the safety of persons and property.

The quality of services of TAP Maintenance & Engineering has been internationally recognized by Customers and Manufacturers throughout the years. In 2005, TAP Maintenance and Engineering was invited by Airbus to integrate the first Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) Network, the Airbus MRO Network, and, in that same year, TAP Portugal was distinguished by Airbus with the "A310 Operational Excellence Award" for the best world-wide utilization of the Airbus A310 fleet in the period between 2003 and 2005.

This award joins three others already granted by Airbus to TAP, in 1996, 2000 and 2003, for the best operational performance world-wide, on the A340, A319 and A310 fleet, respectively, and expresses the recognition of the exceptional level reached by the company in the optimized use of the fleet and in the maintenance of its operational reliability. In 2007, TAP Maintenance & Engineering was awarded a recognition certificate as the Best Engine/Aircraft Source of Repair for the NATO AWACS (Airborne Early Warning and Control) Depot Level Maintenance Program in 2006.
